These seed labels came from this nice little shop i found online. I picked up the frames at my local charity shop for 75p each. (Small interjection while i point out that 90% of my ‘finds’ in the bric-a-brac category come from this same shop, called ‘Thrift Shop 2’ on Gilmore Place. They support Birthlink. Its the only charity shop i know that you are allowed to bargain (50p here or there – all part of the fun) without being frowned upon
. Also, the prices labeled never add up to the total you pay, so its always a nice surprise.) Anyway, the vision for the spare room was floral heaven, so these blend in rather well indeed.
A Belfast favourite for useful finds..
Here are my recent ‘practical’ purchases from an amazing church based project that I love,East Belfast mission.
The first for a fiver, the second fifteen. I love anything to do with round/ oval mirrors or frames.

I can see this little bland guy as my new bathroom book stand and cabinet.. mags in a bathroom, essential!
Really fancy this painted up as a funky retro vanity unit.. My jewellery definately needs an inspiring shop fit, where I’ll be inspired to pluck each piece up anew!

And a little ‘after’ view for you. The contrast shade should maybe have been brighter.. went for grey/ aqua tones, and a blue/grey glass knob.

The colours were inpsired by a recent trip to a magnificent pebble beach in Donegal on a treasured visit with Salvage sis Lucy. I ‘salvaged a few’ to add feature to the bathroom.
I’ve since evolved this little cabinet with some birdy decals.. I recieved a beautiful little note with this design, and just knew it had to be saved from the bin or a dusty shelf!
Food for free: Elderflower Cordial
Elderflowers are abundant at the moment in hedgerows and roadsides. I picked this lot up driving home from work one day this week, and converted them into a years supply of cordial. Its so expensive to buy, you would think the process was complicated. But no – an overnight infusion, add some sugar, heat for a few minutes and your laughing.

The Glory Hole
I was delighted to recently discover a new place to forage for finds. The Glory Hole in Innerleithen, Scottish Borders, is the source of these latest treasures – a selection of collector’s Cornishware, and a beautiful vintage embroidered tea-cosy to add to the respective collections. To get into the shop, the owner had to come out the front door, there being only one passage though the precarious piles of suitcases, door-knobs, lettering stamps, china, carpets, silverware and furniture. I know where I’ll be spending my lunch break these days…
Organisation station appreciation
I am a grateful recipient of the amazing ‘Organisation stations’ of the previous post by Lucy. Here it is in action.. along with a peak at my nursery which with a little fighting some old furniture into a metrically challenged space, and a tin of paint with a lot of masking tape, I was able to transform for under 25 pounds! A proud 1/1000 of the prices I was amazed to find being pedalled at me with emotional attachments when I briefly snooped around a few stockists of such things, surely over indulging a need for such transitional items! A little wire line with pegs makes a great showcase of the cutest tiniest things and favourite cards.. enjoy.
Crochet is back in
Organisation Station

I have been developing the design of my wall-hanging organisers, and in the process coming up with some gifts for special little people! These seem to work well above a changing table, to hold nappies, booties, odd socks, potions etc. The vintage lace mostly came from the car boot sale in Greenside Place, or Tullyroan loft, and Cath Kidston does some handy free material swatches to add a bit of floral kitsch. Organisation that looks good – its a winner.
Salvaging – not just for sisters
Out by Balerno reservoir, the old boardwalk over the bog has recently been dismantled, leaving all this lovely wood for a canny passer-by. We have bemoaned the lack of good sun-spots in the back garden, so the boys wanted to create a decking at the bottom (for free), so we can enjoy all those sunny evenings Scotland is about to see! Here they are hard at work, salvaging and laying the foundations for the DIY decking. Pictures of the finished results to follow…
