A Belfast favourite for useful finds..

Here are my recent ‘practical’ purchases from an amazing church based project that I love,East Belfast mission.
The first for a fiver, the second fifteen. I love anything to do with round/ oval mirrors or frames.

I can see this little bland guy as my new bathroom book stand and cabinet.. mags in a bathroom, essential!

Really fancy this painted up as a funky retro vanity unit.. My jewellery definately needs an inspiring shop fit, where I’ll be inspired to pluck each piece up anew!

And a little ‘after’ view for you. The contrast shade should maybe have been brighter.. went for grey/ aqua tones, and a blue/grey glass knob.

The colours were inpsired by a recent trip to a magnificent pebble beach in Donegal on a treasured visit with Salvage sis Lucy. I ‘salvaged a few’ to add feature to the bathroom.

I’ve since evolved this little cabinet with some birdy decals.. I recieved a beautiful little note with this design, and just knew it had to be saved from the bin or a dusty shelf!

too cute to trash/stash

Food for free: Elderflower Cordial

Elderflowers are abundant at the moment in hedgerows and roadsides. I picked this lot up driving home from work one day this week, and converted them into a years supply of cordial. Its so expensive to buy, you would think the process was complicated. But no – an overnight infusion, add some sugar, heat for a few minutes and your laughing.

Crochet is back in

I’ve been looking for one of these crochet blankets for a while, having seen them crop up in lots of home interior mags recently. I guess they fall into the ‘vintage find’ category now. This one is covered in cat hairs, but at £2 from Thrift Shop 2, who could argue?

Organisation Station

I have been developing the design of my wall-hanging organisers, and in the process coming up with some gifts for special little people! These seem to work well above a changing table, to hold nappies, booties, odd socks, potions etc. The vintage lace mostly came from the car boot sale in Greenside Place, or Tullyroan loft, and Cath Kidston does some handy free material swatches to add a bit of floral kitsch. Organisation that looks good – its a winner.

Our history

So here is a clue to the hereditary nature of this salvaging condition we hereto diagnose ourselves of – an article from 1970 of our late mother featured in the local paper for her salvage style!! The equivalent of blogging at that time I would surmise… Gem
