I&#8217;ve been collecting up wax odds and ends over the past year, and with a vast and ever-expanding collection of cups and saucers, it was time for action. The wax is initially melted down in a bain-marie. Meanwhile, cut wicks from ordinary white string, tie one end to a long stick, coat them in wax and straighten before they harden.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.salvagesisters.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/img_2510.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-828\" title=\"IMG_2510\" src=\"http:\/\/www.salvagesisters.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/img_2510.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tullyroan.com\/salvagesisters\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/img_2510.jpg 2816w, https:\/\/www.tullyroan.com\/salvagesisters\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/img_2510-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.tullyroan.com\/salvagesisters\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/img_2510-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.tullyroan.com\/salvagesisters\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/img_2510-600x400.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.tullyroan.com\/salvagesisters\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/img_2510-460x307.jpg 460w, https:\/\/www.tullyroan.com\/salvagesisters\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/img_2510-688x459.jpg 688w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I found that once the wax was molten, it became quite grey in colour with all the burnt wicks etc. I threw in some red wax, but am told a coloured wax crayon can also do the trick. With care, pour the wax into desired receptacle, balancing the prepared wicks and ensuring they remain straight.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.salvagesisters.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/img_2511.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-829\" title=\"IMG_2511\" src=\"http:\/\/www.salvagesisters.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/img_2511.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I have since learned that you need to top up the candle centre once dry, as they tend to sink with the weight of the wick.
